Questions to ask a zakat charity
Seven questions any zakat charity should answer plainly. Tick them off as you go.
Seven questions for a zakat charity
- Is zakat kept in a separate fund? It should never mix with general gifts.
- Which groups receive it? Ask which of the eight of Quran 9:60.
- Do any costs come from zakat? And what share?
- Which countries does it reach? Can you choose one?
- How soon is it passed on? Weeks, not years.
- What will you hear back? A report, or the year’s accounts.
- What is its registration number? Check it on the register.
When you are ready, pay your zakat openly and see where each pound goes.

Named groups, named countries, a stated timescale.
In writing
A policy page, not only a reply on the phone.
Matching the register
Its number and name match the official register.
